I started mosaicking in 1996 and was instantly inspired by the tactile feel of the tile and the functionality of the materials juxtaposed with the creativity of composition. The materials themselves often inspire the design: a beautiful piece of coral smalti can lead to a wall of tulips. I am inspired by the abstract but find many of my pieces rooted in the everyday. Nature and history are concepts I find myself revisiting time and time again. Honouring the past with contemporary materials and interpreting the fragility and beauty of the natural world with the strength, luminosity and movement of glass tile and stone is a consistent theme within my art.
